Trends and Events/SWOT Analysis

To respond effectively to changes in their environments, nonprofit organizations, such as the Florida Government Communicators Association, must understand their external and internal contexts so that they can develop effective strategies to link the two. Context in today's world is a synthesis of understanding and action.

The following two exercises are intended to identify the most important environmental trends and events that are related to the organization's strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities. Strengths and weaknesses are internal to the association while opportunities and threats are external to the organization.

The second table, know as a TOWS matrix, is important for it reveals the current direction of the association. Every organization exhibits characteristics in each quadrant of the matrix. FGCA's Strategic Plan is based on its dominant characteristic, which is in the Future Quadrant!
