FGCA 1999 Strategic Plan
Prepared by the Sanford Consulting Group

Executive Summary

Since 1989 the Florida Government Communicators Association (FGCA) has dedicated itself to improving the flow of information from its members' government agencies to the public. FGCA's Strategic Plan provides a framework and direction for the nonprofit association's ever-evolving course during the coming years. The Plan addresses four strategic issues:

  • Professional Development: Strengthening the value of member public information officers.
  • Association and Profession Awareness: Increasing opportunities.
  • Membership: Retaining and attracting creative and committed members.
  • Technology: Facilitating knowledge of trends in communication technology.

The Strategic Plan methodically addresses these issues in terms of the association's mandates, stakeholders, clients, mission, trends, strengths and weaknesses, issues, and strategies. It also synthesizes a positive vision as well as recommendations for implementation. Measurable indicators allow progress to be evaluated. A recommended Strategic Plan Review committee (SPARC) should review the Plan prior to adoption by the Board of Directors. The SPARC should monitor implementation and review progress annually.

As the premier public communicator group in the State of Florida, FGCA provides a unique forum for idea exchange, shared experiences, and learning. By building on current proactive strategies, and providing a systematic approach to the association's challenges, the Strategic Plan ensures that FGCA remains the catalyst for more effective communication of important government programs, services and initiatives.
